About Pia

A psychotherapist and counsellor working with adults and couples in York and online.

My career path has not been a straight line. Along the way I have worked in finance and in information technology, and I have raised a family. Each of those chapters taught me something about pressure, change and what people carry quietly.

I trained in psychotherapy and counselling and have practised clinically since 2011, working with adults individually and with couples. I hold an M.A. (Distinction) in Psychotherapy, a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling.

My aim is to offer a steady, confidential relationship in which difficult things can be said and thought about without judgement. I do not believe any one model has all the answers, so I draw on several ways of working and let your needs shape the work rather than the other way round.

As a native Finn, I have a deep understanding of the power of being outdoors and how it can be both healing and support the wellbeing through connection to nature. I will combine more traditional psychotherapy with nature-based psychotherapy and where appropriate with phototherapy. My sessions take place initially in the therapy room and if agreed, later sessions can be based also outdoors throughout York.

I receive regular clinical supervision, as required by my professional bodies, and I continue to undertake professional development.
